Progressions

2021

Progressions documents a cyclical narrative of processes and what may result from their interruption. Propagation, molting, conformity, and healing are each addressed through imagery and manipulated sound within the work. For each visual, an alternate sound is used which deviates from the video’s original audio. Some sounds may be similar to the original audio, and some are completely symbolic. The dissected timing of the visuals combined with these alternate sounds creates a discomforting yet engaging experience.

Current

2021

In the video piece, Current, self-extension and process are emphasized as a piece of silicone with my own hair is released into a creek. I see hair in many of these works as symbolic of intimacy and connection, just as the silicone represents a boundary. The silicone piece is documented following the current until it is retrieved by myself and later contained within a new environment. The sound changes as the video ends, transforming into restrained drips of water in contrast with the continuous splashing of the creek.

The two photographs Current and Propagation are a documentation of the process that has taken place, but also allude to ideas of containment, displacement and duplication.
